This simulation is not official in any way. I have released it publicly because I found it useful as a tool for exploring energy management strategy and I hope that others may similarly benefit. Use it entirely at your own risk.
Please note the discussion concerning the limitations of the model in the Background Information document. This document is also available from the main menu.
You are strongly advised to test the validity of any strategy you develop using this tool in a certified flight simultator.
Your task is to put the former inside the latter at the optimal moment.
The aircraft is controlled by setting target indicated airspeed and target heading using the buttons on the control bar. The required manoeuvre will be flown automatically.
Also on the control bar are buttons to extend the gear, select slats and deploy speedbrake.
As per the QRH, only the blue hydraulics system is available. Thus:
At the top are indicated airspeed, vertical speed and altitude.
Below that is the relative position of the touchdown zone:
At the bottom are the runway parameters. QFU is the bearing of the centre line of the runway.
The flight model replicates the glide ratios published in the QRH All Engine Failure checklist for a 60T A320:
The control system allows overspeeds of up to 10kt to be selected.
The simulation starts in a paused state. Click the play button to start it running. It may be paused again at any time.
The menu button on the left, among other things, allows the scenario to be restarted or a new scenario to be selected.
You will be given a choice of scenarios, which, to some extent, build on each other from top to bottom. “Easy from here” with calm winds is recommended for your first attempt.
